Google is a corporation, corporations want/need/must make money. They don’t/won’t/can’t really make their goal “not to do evil” because they will, from time to time, do evil. Google probably does less evil then many companies but it’s not on the side of the angels, no company is.

Sure, we can admire it for sharing the wealth via generous stock options with many of its employees and, don’t get me wrong, it is certainly a better company then many. But, that having been said, when push comes to shove, Google is not much different than any other company. It knows exactly when to hide its principles under a rock.

Now you may be thinking I’m talking about the self-serving drivel that came out from them about their capitulation in China, but I’m not. I’m actually talking about the ever increasing number of “permatemps”-that high tech equivalent of the “underclass”-that they hire to run the nuts and bolts of their ad-words business. Those people don’t get the benefits we hear that Google showers on their employees and while they may be relatively well paid, there’s no health insurance, stock options etc for them.

So, let’s all welcome the nice folks at Google to the real world and let’s suggest they get their rhetoric in line with their reality. How ’bout: “Do no more evil then is necessary (to keep us a Wall Street darling).”
